Become a part of Needles of Love
Needles of Love was started in the fall of 2008 by three women who shared their ideas, talents, and resources to create a 9-block quilt to use as a model for what they wanted to provide to the infants and children who are baptized into the Walnut Hills family. With that sample quilt, some enthusiasm, and many other volunteers, they created Needles of Love, a group dedicated to using needles (sewing, knitting, or crocheting) to share God’s love with others. Within the first 6 months of existing, Needles of Love made 16 baptism quilts and presented 14 of them. Each quilt is made of unique fabrics, but all quilts have the same center block that has the traditional 3 crooked crosses embroidered on it and says “We are now your family. Walnut Hills UMC.”
While creating the baptism quilts will always be top priority, Needles of Love also works on other projects, such as the Celebration Center altar cloths and panels and helping make baby clothes and blankets for Precious Angels. The Celebration Center panels and altar cloths are coordinated with the liturgical season and were the inspiration of James Walters, Walnut Hills Worship Arts Director. Needles of Love took his idea and ran with it! Their goal is to make a set for each liturgical color (white, purple, red, green, and blue) with some additional ones for special occasions. Precious Angels is an organization that one of the members had already been involved with. They work to make blankets, clothes, and coffins for preemies who have died, as families are often unable to find items small enough for their children.
Connecting with Needles of Love
Needles of Love could not exist without the support and contributions from the congregation. If you are interested in becoming involved or have fabric or yarn to donate, contact Abbie Smith in one of these ways.
