We all know that the world needs more community, more compassion, more justice, and love – and that’s exactly what Walnut Hills sets out to provide each and every day. Together, we seek an abundant life, the kind of life that participates in God’s love for the world, the kind of life that seeks justice, loves kindness, and walks humbly, the kind of life that abounds with community, compassion, justice, and love.

2024 is the 35th year of Walnut Hills being a beacon of community in the Des Moines metro. From Altoona to Ankeny, Waukee to Johnson, folks from Clive, Des Moines, West Des Moines, and more have all found Walnut Hills to be a welcoming church community. Our church is a gathering place, a refuge, a lighthouse of inclusivity, and a wellspring of joy.

We build community by gathering and connecting through youth group, confirmation, Sunday School, and small groups. By supporting Bidwell Riverside, CFUM, and the Simpson Youth Academy, we’re collaborating with our partners to not only expand our community impact but to help others do the same. Our choir and bells build community through the arts. Our children’s ministries and adult education programs, like our social justice forums, build community through learning (and after all, the root of the word “disciple” is the Latin word for “learner”!)

The heart of our community at Walnut Hills is worship. Every time we gather, pray, listen to God’s good news, support, sing, and celebrate, we build up the Beloved Community with joy and beauty. And God knows the world needs more joy and beauty!

When you give to Walnut Hills, you help us give back to the community. Since our founding, it has been a goal to tithe or give back 10% to the community. Thanks to your generosity, giving at Walnut Hills goes beyond our church and into several local, statewide, national, and international agencies and programs.

Each year, members of Walnut Hills are invited to make a commitment to support our community. Your pledge and support is and supports all the programs and ministries and the church. This includes funding worship, programs for children and students, Bible studies, small groups, pastoral care and support, mission trips, community service, building and operational needs, and staffing.
